Slow Cooked BBQ Brisket

There are few times in life when I enjoy waiting.  Sitting in traffic and standing in a long line of eager coffee seekers in the morning doesn’t exactly thrill me. But when I use a slow cooker to create a delicious meal, the longer I wait, the better it tastes. I have to admit-this is one time I don’t mind waiting! The flavors of the dish are strongly intensified with each minute it sits in the slow cooker. In the colder months especially, coming home to that alluring smell of a slow cooked meal is the perfect way to wind down and enjoy a warm dish. And nothing can top the taste of a slow cooked BBQ brisket.

While living in the Kansas City area,  I tried brisket from some of the most famous BBQ joints in the country (K.C. is known as one of the BBQ capitals after all). This recipe for BBQ brisket  mirrors some of the best brisket I’ve ever tasted and it’s homemade! It really  just takes a few easy steps because you can add all of the ingredients together in the morning and let the slow cooker do the work while you go about your day. Eight to ten hours later and you’ve got a delicious, tender meat dish to pair with crusty bread.

Baking Time: 8-10 hours

Ingredients:

* 3-4 lb. brisket
* 2 tablespoons Liquid Smoke
* 1 teaspoon garlic salt
* 1 teaspoon onion salt
* 2 teaspoons Worcestershire
* 2 teaspoons celery seed
* 1 cup BBQ sauce
* 2 teaspoons ground pepper

Instructions:

1. Cover both sides of brisket with Liquid Smoke, garlic, onion, celery seed and Worcestershire sauce.
2. Place in slow cooker in foil. Put on low for 8-10 hours.
3. Take out slice across grain.
4. Put in pot with BBQ sauce for 1 hour.
